Final Fantasy XIII PC controller not working, gamepad fix, settings?

Final Fantasy XIII PC controller not working, gamepad fix, settings?

Final Fantasy XIII is a great game to be played on a PC, using a controller, but the controller might not always work. What to do in that case?

First of all, the perfect way to play Final Fantasy XIII on the PC is by using a controller / gamepad.
If you control the camera with the mouse, it will move and feel weird and overall you will not have a great experience.

Final Fantasy XIII PC controller not working?

By default, the controller should work because FF XIII is optimized for controllers.
If it doesn’t work, in the Windows search bar, type “device manager” and check if you see any device with a “question mark” in the list.
If you see the controller, be sure to update the drivers.

The main issue is from the drivers.
You need to know what brand and model your controller is and install the correct drivers which I’ve found on their official website.
In my case, for the “Speedlink” controller, I had to install its own drivers.
For a wireless Xbox controllers, I didn’t had to do anything, it was plug and play.

What controller to use for Final Fantasy XIII?

You can just buy a very cheap no-name controller to enjoy this game.
I play with a “Speedlink” branded controller that costs around 10 euro.

Final Fantasy XIII has controller support for the PC, the only thing you need to do to in order to play with a controller is to plug it in the PC.
The game will auto-recognize it.
However, be sure that you install the drivers for your controller and that Windows is recognizing it.

For a great experience, I recommend to get the Xbox wireless controller for the PC.
It is not cheap, around 50-60$, but it’s worth the money.

The Final Fantasy XIII buttons for the controller are as it follows: (the buttons from the right side of the controller) up key is for action.
The right button is for cancel/go back.
Check the game settings to see what every button from your controller is doing.

You can just play the game without using the keyboard at all.
Only one thing to be careful, don’t use the escape button from your keyboard.
If you do that, the game will completely close, and you will need to start it back.

Final Fantasy XIII controller settings

If you play with a controller on your PC, use these settings:

Camera: Inverted Y-axis (best setting when playing with a controller).
Battle Speed: normal.
Target Selection: Via cursor (to make it feel like the old FF games).
On-Screen Button Explanations: Controller Type.

In order to quit the game, press “Start” and then “Select” from your gamepad.
Or hit the escape button from the keyboard.
You can do the same thing to skip the cutscenes, “Start” and then “Select”.

Hopefully this article has given you some ideas about your issue with the Final Fantasy XIII PC controller not working.
