Max Payne was ported and released for Android some months ago.
Being a Max Payne fan, it’s hard not to want to play this game on a touch device.
I myself was a kid when Max Payne was released on PC and didn’t really understood the story back then. Good that I have and we have the chance to replay it in other conditions.
The Android game is surprisingly great. And I’m talking about the gameplay/control/camera and graphics.
I play it on my Nexus 7 and the game runs perfect with all graphic options set to high. The textures might be worse than the PC version but they look perfect as they are.
The most important thing that I was afraid of was the camera control and the shooting mechanics. Both aspects are great though. If you play the game for like half an hour, you get used to the controls. The shooting doesn’t require ultra aiming skills. There is actually an auto-aiming system and even if your weapon target is a little away from the enemy, you will still shoot him. At least on the easiest difficulty level.
Because the game takes place in small environments, rooms mostly, it’s not that hard to move the camera.
The game is like the one from PC
What else to say? The game is exactly the same as the PC version from years ago, nothing is changed in terms of story or gameplay elements, we have the same weapons, locations, missions.
We have bullet-time but I didn’t found its use. What is missing are those slow-motion jumps but as the game is easier to play with the slight auto-aim option, I didn’t needed those evasion jumps. Saving the game is really easy, the save game button is the bottom-right button.
At least on my Nexus 7, the game didn’t drained the battery that fast, I think I could run the game for 3-4 hours and the tablet will still have battery. It also didn’t heat my device at all. So don’t be afraid to try a game with advanced graphics, something different than 2D Android games, Angry Birds, Candy Crush or something else.
Max Payne for Android is a good game for those who want to try a shooter on a touch device, for those who also want to remember the game that they played on PC or PS2, years ago.
It’s worth the money.
