To disable the updates: click on the “Start” button, “All Programs”, search for the HP item and launch the executable called “HP update”.
It will open a window with “next” buttons. There is a bottom button called “Configuration” or “Settings”. Click on it and set the option “Check for updates” to “never” instead of “once a month”.
These updates are really annoying because they change the name of the printer (from Control Panel, Printers and Faxes) and if your printer is shared by other computers, they won’t be able to access it since the printer will have a new name and won’t be shared after the update.
