How to backup WoW addons, settings and macros?

If you play World of Warcraft, you might be interested in how to backup the WoW addons, settings and macros.

In case that your PC gets hacked, your WoW account gets hacked or just your Windows operating system stops working correctly, the best thing to have is a backup for your wow macros and keybinds.

Except these, it is also great to have at least a screenshot with your “User Interface”, as it will be easier to recreate it after you reinstall the game, if that will happen.

To backup your World of Warcraft macros, follow these steps:

– go to the folder where World of Warcraft is installed
– go to the “WTF” folder
– “account”
– [name] of the account
– look for the .txt file named: “macros-cache”.
– copy this txt file on your computer in a separate location, or on an external hard drive, USB stick etc (for backup)

That file is keeping all your WoW macros.

For keybinds, follow the same steps:

Instead of the “cache” file, look for the file named “bindings-cache”.

It should have a few kilobytes as well.

Copy these two files to a backup location on your computer.

To conclude, to get back everything as it is now, copy all the “WTF” folder into a backup location from your computer and overwrite the folder each month.

This way, if anything goes wrong, you can always restore your usual settings.

Hopefully, now you know how to backup your WoW addons, settings and macros.
