How to set a password to a private folder in Windows 7?

Windows 7 comes with an option to make a folder private.

What you need to do is to right click on your folder, click on “properties”, click on “advanced” and then check “encrypt contents to secure data”. Then click on “ok”.

You will notice that your folder name turns green.

It means that your folder is now private / secured. Nobody can see what’s inside.

How it works?

On your Windows 7, only you will be able to see the contents of that folder.

A user that will log with a different username on your PC, in order to access that folder, will have to enter the password used by you when you’re logging into Windows.

If your username doesn’t have a password, securing that folder will be useless, everyone could access it.
