7 reasons why World of Warcraft Cataclysm was a Fail

7 reasons why World of Warcraft Cataclysm was a Fail

1. Npc-s with no personality
You have seen the guy in Stormwind that is staying on that box since 2002, when the game was launched. Too bad for him, Blizzard still decided not even a cataclysm can move him.
On a more serious note, a suggestion that was often said on the wow forums was to give npc-s more credibility, put them to do something, cook, go to bed at a certain hour, walk around the area, give them personality, so when you enter world of warcraft, to really feel the immersion.

2. No quest dialogues
We had Indiana Jones, lots of interesting quest figures, but still nobody will read the quest log, except the lore lovers. The game is about playing, not reading. However Blizzard has all the money in the world to just hire some voice actors and give the quests speaking dialogues. Doesn’t matter that this will add more gigabytes to the game folder, is already big.

3. No new city to hang out
That gives the feeling to the players that after you reach level 85, you really want to hang out in a new area, some will go to Uldum. Siting in an underwater area sounds fun for questing but not to hang out, when the only npc-s there are sitting in a small cave.
Stormwind and Orgrimarr have been redesigned, but is missing the “WOW” factor, the shiny lights, from Shattrath or Dalaran, the sewers pvp area etc.
Some people will just go to Uldum, but reading the points above, there’s really nothing to do there.

4. The new battlegrounds and Tol Barad “pvp zone”.
We have Twin Peaks, The battle for gilneas, and Tol Barad, all 3 having the same environment.
It is good that Twin Peaks and The battle for gilneas share the same ideas as warsong gulch and arathi basin, however they are placed in an ugly unfriendly environment. It would have been a really better idea to place them in Uldum or .. anything else, maybe a jungle environment. They just feel sad.
Tol Barad.. a grinding place for dailies, however really boring, you won’t even get flagged after the hourly battle is over. The fight itself is even worse than wintergrasp, horde or alliance need to attack / or defend 3 bases, if alliance is attacking, they need to capture and hold 3 buildings at once, while horde must not let them. Pretty inbalanced since everyone knows the fact that horde is dominating everything related to pvp.
The same goes to The battle of gilneas who is a smaller arathi basin with only 3 flags. A kick for Alliance.

5. No Villains
Who is Deathwing anyway, for players that never read the warcraft history, he is just a rusty dragon from the earth who revamped the world of warcraft. We love him, other than this we still would have been in Icecrown Citadel or Dalaran. Would have been better to add also some figures from he old Warcraft 3, sadly I bet 95% of the players don’t know or don’t want to know who is Deathwing. We knew for sure who was Arthas, the lich king.

6. Still no events in the world
Nothing will happen after you get to 85, there is nice that they added cutscenes during the quests, however some people loved events like the ones with the zombie invasion from the pre wrath of the lich king. Was great to login just to be able to RP the defense of the Stormwind Cathedral, or stay and protect goldshire.
Now, nothing is happening, opening the gates to Ahn’Qiraj was interesting, after that, players said that Blizzard stopped aboyt customers. Nothing epic is happening. Nothing will happen if you log now, or a week later.

7. Cataclysm was offline
No dragon raised from the ground, no earthquakes, nothing. Just the server down, many people expected to face the cataclysm in the game, Blizzard thought that it was not fair for the players who were offline.
So to make the most players happy, the ones that were not in the game, they made the cataclysm to happen while everyone was offline, as they kept the servers closed until the next day.
